Kickstart your project: how to paint your hallway
Before you start your hallway makeover, we'll give you a few handy tips.
What you need
- A 2.5L can of Spinder Design wall paint in the desired color (1 liter of paint covers 8 to 10 m²; for the best results, we apply two coats)
- Paint roller with handle and paint tray
- Two brushes: one medium and one small
- A stirring stick
- Painter's tape
- Drop cloths or plastic for furniture and floor
- Soapy water with a neutral cleaner or degreaser
- A ladder for difficult spots
- A damp cloth to remove spilled paint
- Primer, if your walls are still highly absorbent
1. Choose your color
The color of your wall determines the atmosphere and appearance of your interior. Take into account the light. Good to know: our products in Silky Taupe and Dusty Green have exactly the same color as the wall paint.
2. Degrease the walls and apply painter's tape
First, degrease the walls with a neutral cleaner, or for stubborn dirt, with a degreaser or ammonia water (1 part ammonia to 9 parts water). This helps with paint adhesion. Tape off outlets, baseboards, and doorframes, and cover the floor and your furniture well.
3. Painting
First, test if your walls are absorbent: spray the wall with a plant mister. If the water is absorbed directly into the surface, first use a primer. If not, priming is not necessary.
Open the can with a flat screwdriver and stir the paint thoroughly. Pour some paint into the tray and start with the medium brush along the edges; feel free to paint a bit over the painter's tape. Then fill the rest of the wall with the roller. The paint dries quickly, so make long strokes, keep up the pace, and work in a V-shape for a streak-free finish. Let the first coat dry and then apply a second coat if necessary.
4. Clean up
Once the wall is covered, carefully remove the painter's tape while the paint is still a bit wet. This prevents pieces of tape from being left behind. Then clean everything up and clean the brushes.
5. View the result
Everything cleaned up and dry? Enjoy the final result: a beautiful new color as a backdrop for your interior.
